memorial weekend

so- for memorial weekend, we went to baton rouge, louisiana to visit my grandparents- grandma sylvia and papa lou- also, my mom was in town (grandma bird we call her) and my sister, and her son- 'little'. our dog sitter, barbie came to keep stormie, and we headed on our way saturday morning... we didn't hit traffic, but spent a fortune in gas and 'snacks' and heard several 'how much longer, are we there yet' s i know it is payback and probably makes my dad smile to know i am listening to my kids ask me that same question i asked him over and over and over again on that same trip from houston to baton rouge (mom always slept).. 4.5 hours later, we made it to our destination- the cook hotel- which is on the LSU campus and is a really nice hotel- we had a suite with a kitchen and family room and separate bedroom- and huge bathroom with 2 sinks- perfect size for the 6 of us. there is also a huge, nice pool, too- and free breakfast from 7:30-9:30am. grandma bird bought all the boys a new toy and the girls swimsuits (including mwah) when we got there- we played outside a little, and then headed to my grandparents favorite- the picadilly, for dinner that night..it was nice that jeremy is able to help get papa lou in and out of the car, bc he doesnt get to go out much- justin is GREAT with papa lou- he knows just what to say and how to act around him- so proud of him- and i told him how special he was to papa lou and how great he was with him- put a big grin on his face... justin also entertained us in the kitchen, while papa did his exercises, justin showed us HIS exercises- that he does like mommy- push ups, sit ups, and chase the rabbits- lol see below...

sunday, we got up- almost missed breakfast- and headed to grandparents house- the boys loved playing with their little cousin, little- and brooke enjoyed playing 'fur elise' over and over and over again on the piano- she's actually pretty good at it! brittany and jeremy spent time picking on each other watching tv in the den... during nap time, we headed back to the hotel- boys napped, jeremy played his video game, and the girls went to the pool- i went for a jog around the lake but it was HOT HOT HOT and so i didnt get very far- came back and did some arm work and then took a quick shower and met the girls at the pool- it was perfect temp for the water. then, while the girls and i showered (not together, you sickos) jeremy took justin to the pool- and justin decided to be scared of the water - and insisted he could NOT swim without goggles- so jeremy got frustrated and they came back upstairs after about 10 mintues.

we headed back to grandma and papa's house and went to eat at yummy outback! jacob kept us entertained by his usual antics- throwing his crayons on the floor, menu on the floor, anything else he felt like throwing on the floor- and my sister got a huge kick out of it, because jacob is alot like little- who is also a challenge- whereas justin is 'perfect' she says- lol... so she is enjoying that not both of my boys are 'perfect'..haha! jacob does provide quite some entertainment- he is a funny boy!

after dinner, we took a walk to the lake and got a few pictures- lisa walked papa back and mom and grandma headed back- they left me and the girls with the boys- justin, jacob and little- which was quite a challenge trying to hold onto jacob and little to keep them from running in the street or water- each trying to pull a different direction! (see picture)..on the way back to the house, we successfully taught little how to sing 'oh oh oh oh oh, the right stuff' and he now sings it to aunt lisa and uncle jule- who just loves it (haha)

monday morning, we headed over for our goodbyes- but we let the girls sleep in a little and go to the hotel pool until we got back- we finally got back monday afternoon and had tons of laundry to do- fun! not.

the week after memorial day- we got an idea of the pain in the booty it is for brittany to not be driving yet- she had practice for 3 days after school for drill team- practice was 4:30-6:30- which meant she got home at 3 and had to be back at 4:30- which means jeremy or i would have to leave work by 3:30 to get home by 4 to get her to school by 4:30... luckily, 2 of the 3 days, i had her find a ride- and we drove her home all 3 days...

  2. Love the picture of the kids by the lake! Justin is so tender hearted to be such a big help with Papa Lou. Jacob is a nut and love his smile and I am sure Aunt Lisa and Uncle Jule are going to love the singing, I mean who doesn't like NKOTB? Sounds like yall had a great trip.

  3. Wow- great trip! Isn't it neat to see your kids bonding with your grandparents- it means so much and creates the greatest memories.

I know what you mean about the hotel and having adequate room for everyone. We usually try to find a Residence in and get their 2 bedroom suite with the kitchen. It even has 2 bathrooms! The price isn't that much more than their regular rooms, and it is so worth it!

Great pics, too! My favorite is the one of you and all the kids with your grandma- priceless!
